OWNED Why hacking continues to be a problem eBook Mister Reiner

Over the holiday break I decided to purchase my first ebook, and I'm happy it was this title authored by Mister Renier.

This is an excellent representation of what it's like to be a security professional in the realworld. Throughout the book the Mister Renier demonstrates time and time again that security isnt' mitigated by COTS (commercial off the shelf software) but rather the intelligence of professionals within the decipline of security.

While this title isn't very technical in terms of exploites used to attach targets, or detailing the numerous ways to poke fun at vulnerabilities, it does go to great lenghts to provide a high level overview of the fundamental practices that every organization fails to achieve in their security programs. From basic account adminsitration on servers and connected workstations, remote administration protocols, the tried and true practice of least privledge, to the various policies that should be implemented before anyone access any company owned property.

This title was a refreshing look (reminder) that security is everyones job and no matter what hardware/software you purchase if you fail to implemented any security program from the ground your likely to fail. I would recommend this book to any professional working in IT, specifically those who perform security related functions as well as any executive looking for some insight and/or direction for strengtening their own security programs.
